Fit new underlay felt and existing slates.
![]() Below is a photograph of the existing roof which you can see slates are starting to slip, this due to the nails rotting.
These existing welsh slates are still in perfect condtion and we beleive will out last any new type of slate which is on sale today.
In view of above and to keep costs down, our client has decided to re-use these existing slates.

All slates and laths have now been stripped.
The Building Inspector for the local council has inspected the esiting roof struture and now confirms that they fine.
FACT: All roof renewals require a Building Notice service into the Council.
Without a building notice your local council can enforce action for the works to be re-done.
ALLWAYS MAKE SURE THAT A BUILDING NOTICE IS SERVED.!
IF IN DOUBT, CHECK WITH YOUR COUNCILS BUILDING CONTROL DEPARTMENT.
![]() Our operatives carefully removes the existing slates for re-use. ![]() ![]() All slates and old laths have now been removed. New laths and felt being fitted. Take Note: As you can see, we are fitting what we believe is the best Fully Breathable underlay felt which is on the market today (Tyvek), which unfortunately is the most expensive. We also provide a 10mm overfascia vent to provide the correct airflow of which is needed for this underlay to breath correctly. Also eave protectors are always fitted which again is a requirement so that the underlay felt does not rot inside the gutters. FACT:. A lot of roofers will NOT fit the eave protectors. Will NOT fit over fascia vents. Any will NOT fit Tyvek, but a must cheaper alternative which will not be approved by your local council. Therefore your roof will not breath correctly which could have a devastating long term effect. When you ask a company for a quotation, demand that they include the above materials in their quotation. Ask you local council, Building Control to verify the above material requirements. ![]() ![]() ![]() Whilst renewing the roof it was noticed that the brickwork gable was in poor repair.
